The Shah has brought his coup d╒etat to a successful issue, and a reign of terror has been established in the city. All the prominent Nationalist leaders, as well as a large number of deputies and priests, are prisoners, and several of them have already been hanged. The bombardment of the buildings in the Parliament Square continued until late on Tuesday afternoon, and nothing is left of the Parliament House and the adjoining mosque but a mass of ruins. The troops began to pillage the premises of the political clubs and the residences of prominent Nationalists before noon, and it was generally feared that the looting would would spread to the Bazaars. The Parliamentary forces, ill-armed and unorganised, were unable to offer a prolonged, and the fighting resembled a riot rather than a pitched battle. The loss of life, despite the flamboyant accounts that have appeared in certain newspapers, was comparatively slight.
